Welcome, and thanks for being here!

I’m Tamiko Nimura, an award-winning Asian American (Sansei/Pinay) creative nonfiction writer and public historian. I have spent the last 15+ years building a career in writing creative nonfiction: personal essays, community journalism, public history, arts writing, and food writing,. You can also find out more about me and my writing at my author website.

I have written two books, available here (biography) and here (co-authored graphic novel). My third book is called A PLACE FOR WHAT WE LOSE: A DAUGHTER’S RETURN TO TULE LAKE. It’s scheduled to come out in Spring 2026 from the University of Washington Press.

I’ll be writing monthly (or so) newsletters about:
  • what I’m reading,
  • my current writing projects,
  • my writing path, communities, and resources for writers,
  • behind-the-scenes news about my forthcoming memoir and book tour
  • (sometimes) what I am cooking, baking, or eating.
Subscribers here will be some of the very first folks to hear about events, giveaways and special swag for my memoir.

I understand that not everyone has time to read another newsletter, so please feel free to unsubscribe at any time.
Thank you for reading!
